Promote your Activities as inclusive and suitable for disabilities or accessibility requirements to help participants find you.
When you select options in the Disability dropdown menu, you can mark your activity as suitable for participants with that specific disability or accessibility requirement. Your selection(s) will be visible to participants wherever the activity is published - for instance, on your website and on other websites, apps and activity finders that we promote your Activities on. Your activity will also appear as a result when participants search specifically for what you offer using filters and search terms based on the information you have provided.
The disability and accessibility type list is very long, but it has a hierarchy to it.
There are 8 top-level categories of accessibility, all of which may have sub-types below:
- Learning Difficulties
- Mental Health Needs
- Neurological Impairment
- Physical Impairment
- Pregnancy Support
- Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
- Sensory Impairment
- Social and/or Behavioural Needs
When you select any one of these, your activity is tagged as suitable for that disability or accessibility type, as well as other sub-types below it. This means that you can select one, several or all of the above categories. For each selection, that selection and all of its sub-types will be included, meaning that when a participant searches for those disabilities or accessibility requirements, they will find your activity.
This logic also applies if you select an option further down the hierarchy that has sub-types. For example, if you select Communication Needs (which sits under Social and/or Behavioural Needs), your activity would also be tagged with Speech Impairment, which is a sub-type under Communication Needs.
Remember you need to be able to cater for and support all the disability and accessibility requirements you select in order to prevent participants attending whose needs will not be met.
