Team categories and team types help you to organise teams.
A team category is typically used to represent an entity to which a team affiliates e.g. a club, a school, a university hall or a region.
A team type is typically used to represent a format or discipline e.g. Mens', Womens' or Under 16's.
When you enable these you can group your teams into team categories and team types and assign a team administrator to each team category. The team administrator can then manage all the teams in their team category.
You can choose assisted team naming with team categories and team types enabled. This means that whenever a new team is added it is automatically named according to the team category and team type. See more about team naming formats.

You can enable team categories and team types in Team Settings on your left panel menu. Once enabled, every team added, whether by an administrator or as part of a competition entry will need to be assigned to your enabled team categories and team types.
Team categories and team types help you to organise your teams more effectively. They work particularly well where you have multiple teams representing a single club, hall etc.
